What to Expect in BUMUN 2013?


•Days leading to MUN Conference (Knowledge and Skill Development)
•- Research the history, purpose & structure of the UN.
•- Research the country assigned to you by the MUN organizers.
•- Research your assigned country's position on the various global issues.
•- Learn how to lobby.
•- Learn how to write a resolution.
•- Know how a resolution is debated on the UN floor.
•- Know the formal procedures for debate on the UN.
•- Know why to vote or abstain for passing resolutions.
•- Know how resolutions are passed, failed or amended.

•Day 1 (Agenda Setting and Speaker List Formulation)

•- Enter your committee room .
•- Introduce yourself to other delegates.
•- Formulate wings and blocs, e.g. American bloc and Eastern blocs.
•- Understand the importance of the agenda setting.
•- Take a stand for the agenda which is more important or more recent.
•- Once agenda is finalized try to enlist your name in the speaker list for the second day.

•- Social Event: Scavenger Hunt

•Day 2 (Drafting Resolutions)

•- Come prepared with a piece of your own resolution on the selected agenda.
•- Try to incorporate your points in the final draft of resolution during un-moderated caucus.
•- Try to become the submitting country.
•- Social Event: New World Masquerade.


•Day 3 (Formal Debate, Passing/Failing/Amending Resolutions – All Committees)

•- Submitting nations or presenters should prepare opening speeches.
•- Debate the merits or demerits of resolutions in the UN format.
•- Suggest amendments to the resolutions formally.
•- Exchange notes with delegates to communicate (No direct contact is allowed).
•- Vote on resolutions.
•- Social Event: Closing Dinner (Theme: Oscar Night)
